1pm-2pm Radical History Walk

Come for a wander with us and discover the hidden history of one of the oldest and strangest parts of Manchester. Share tales of alchemy and levitation, demons and angels, revolutionary writers, street drinkers, secret tunnels, hanging ditches, moving pubs, digital cathedrals, music, mayhem and more.

1.30pm-2pm Music & Zines Discussion

Anyone is welcome to this discussion on the vanishing genre of music zines! With all the conveniences of the internet is there still a need for them? How have they contributed to the evolution of underground music scenes? What is their purpose now, to document or to promote? What still drives some of us to put them out and how can they be approached in new and inspiring ways?

2pm-3pm Paper Engineering

Paper manipulation, pop-ups and inventive zine formats with Heather from Dans le Matin collective.

3pm-4pm DIY Map Making

How did you get here? What’s the city mean to you? How does it make you feel? What would you like to change… Maps have the power to control and define our landscape; an a-z misses out the glorious wonkiness of life. Lets make some DIY maps that show the view from here and spread the word - cartogography can be sexy.

4pm-5pm Zine Printing & Distribution

With SubText zine collective.

5pm-6pm Zines and Radical Politics: Discussion

Zines and political movements often enjoy a close relationship. You may see zines concerned with issues such as feminism, anti-capitalism and queer politics at today’s fest. Why do zines and radical politics often go together? Is making a zine in itself a political act? What is the impact of political zines? Why are some issues represented and not others? Melanie (editor, Reassess Your Weapons ), Humaira (editor, Race Revolt) and Marion (Zine Fest organiser and zine writer) will kick-start the discussion. All are welcome.
